Two men arrested for hunting deer in Sirumugai

Coimbatore : Foresters of the Sirumugai Forest Range have arrested two men for illegally hunting spotted deer using country gun and remanded them in custody today.

According to foresters, they had received a tip off that deers were being hunted at the backwater area of the Bhavani Reservoir in Pethikuttai. In an attempt to catch the poachers, a team of 15 foresters headed by Range Officer Manoharan were on patrol near Karupparayan temple forest area and have heard fresh rounds being fired early morning. On rushing to the spot in three teams, they had spotted seven men speeding in motor bikes. While, five of them escaped, foresters were able to round up two of the men and arrested them. The accused were identified as P. Devaraj (45) from Sittae Palayam Periyathottam village and S. Kumaraswamy (45) from Sambarava Valli Pudhur. Foresters also confiscated 15 kg deer meat, a single barrel country made gun and two wheelers. 

They confessed to have involved in hunting deers during the night and farming during the day.

They were immediately booked under the Wildlife Protection Act and were remanded in judicial custody at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
