COIMBATORE: Here comes pleasant news for the city residents who are waiting to hear updates on the metro rail as the state government has recently approved the feasibility study for the Coimbatore mass rapid transit system.
Sources said the detailed project report for phase one is under finalization by the consultants Systra and Rites limited.

In this regard, a stakeholder’s meeting was hosted on April 1. Pradeep Yadav, principal secretary and managing director of Chennai Metro Rail Limited headed the meeting. Sources said a detailed presentation of the Coimbatore metro train facility on the different lines proposed to be created in the district was explained to the stakeholders in the meeting.
In total 139 km of the metro rail will be taken up in three phases by CMRL and the first phase will be built for a distance of 44 km on Avinashi road till Karumathampatty and Sathyamangalam road until Valiampalayam pirivu from Ukkadam.
District collector Dr G S Sameeran, city corporation commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara, officials including the representatives from the special initiative department of CMRL, office bearers of ICCI-C, Codissia, Siema, RAAC, Credai, were present in the meeting.
