The Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) train service, running between Udhagamandalam and Mettupalayam, came to a grinding halt on Sunday after an engine issue led to the service being stopped at the Runnymede Railway Station.
Officials said that the train, which left Coonoor at around 1 p.m., developed a technical snag near Kattery, and the train had to be stopped at Runnymede. Following this, technicians were sent to rectify the snag, but they were unable to repair the locomotive.
Officials said that the 100 passengers on board the train were sent to Mettupalayam in a bus which was arranged for them.
