Mettupalayam by 1957 was under the Congress rule led by Shri. Kamraj. His simplistic and visionary leadership inspired new candidates and this time it was Raghubadhi Devi from the Naidu Community who contested against Mr.Madadnnan who lost the election only by a 1103 votes. The margin of victory was only 2.63%. Swaminatha Chettiyar who contested the 1951 elections as an independent again lost this election with a small increase in his tally of votes.
