Annai Veilankanni Church located in Mettupalayam-Coimbatore Road
HISTORY:
Thirvalar Gabriel and his wife Lourdeu lived in Mettupalayam. One day Lourdeu fell ill with a disease which gave her only 2 years 1967 and 1968 to live (as advised by the doctors). Gabriel then took his wife and prayed to the mother Veilankanni for relief from this sickness and give his wife life and good health for which he promised to build place of worship at Mettupalayam. Answering his prayers, the mother showed grace and pity on her and returned her to good health. The search then began for a place to build the shrine and went on for sometime when one day the mother Veilankanni appeared in Louedeu’s dream and indicated the place the shrine should built. Mr.Joseph Prakasam alongwith Gabriel worked very hard to build this shrine and complete it in Feb 1975. The statue placed in this shrine was gift from the Veilankanni Shrine near Nagapattanam. The geby(shrine) was opened by Muthusamy Adikalar on Feb 11, 1975.
Church: A plot of 16 cents was bought behind the geby to build a church on 4th Jan 2003.
